Letchworth State Park - Submitted: 05/11/2006
Located 7 miles from Wiscoy Creek Lodge, the State Park has activites thorugh out the year. The Portageville and Parade Ground entrances are closed during the winter months, but the Castile entrance is a short drive north.
HIKING: Trails range from easy to moderate and half the trails are available for winter hiking or skiing.
WHITEWATER: The Genesee River is a Class II-III whitewater river. Registration is available for canoeists and kayakers. Participants must be experienced whitewater paddlers and able swimmers. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Trips originate from the Lee's Landing area and travel about 6 miles over 2 hours. HOT AIR BALLOONING: For a spectacular view, contact Balloons Over Letchworth at (585) 493-3340.
HORSEBACK RIDING: Letchworth has guided trail rides on horseback. On weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through late October, Wolcott Farms offers guided rides through the park. Beginners are welcome. For information, call (585) 786-3504.
PICNIC AREAS: Picnic tables, grills and shelters are located throughout the park. Fuel for grill fires is not provided. Some picnic shelters are available for reservations.
WINTER SPORTS: These include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skating, snowtubing, snow mobiling in designated areas and hiking.
THE FALLS: Within the park, the Genesee River cascades over three falls, including a 107 foot drop of the Middle Falls. Lights illuminate the Middle Falls after dark from May through October.
